What We Do
Green Jobs Academy is New England’s only regional Home Weatherization and Energy Efficiency training facility for income-eligible and market-rate networks. We provide complete career development training and certification courses. Through hands-on instructional learning, GJA provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter and advance in the home weatherization field.
Green Jobs Academy is accredited by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council on four core weatherization training courses. In addition, Green Jobs Academy offers Building Performance Institute (BPI) training courses and is a BPI test center. The Building Performance Institute is the nation’s premier standards development and credentialing organization for residential energy auditing and upgrade work.
History
Since 2010, GJA has provided weatherization job training with a dual mission and business model: to provide entry level skills training that prepares individuals for in-demand, living wage jobs with a career ladder in the weatherization industry, and to provide flexible, customized, continuing education training for weatherization and energy efficiency professionals to continue to advance in the industry. Mission & Vision
Green Jobs Academy, a division of South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC), is a weatherization job training center with a dual mission and business model: to provide entry-level skills training that prepares individuals for in-demand, living wage jobs with a career ladder in the weatherization industry, and to provide flexible, customized, continuing education training for weatherization and energy efficiency training to allow professionals to continue to advance in the industry.

At Green Jobs Academy, we are committed to advancing environmental equity, wellness, and overall quality of life for individuals and families across Massachusetts and New England. Through specialized weatherization training and hands-on education, we aim to mitigate environmental impacts and foster sustainable practices. We are dedicated to cultivating a diverse weatherization workforce, addressing the needs of the community, and empowering students with career advancement skills. In doing so, we aim to uplift the lives of both our students and the clients they serve.
Vision:
Our vision extends beyond weatherization; we see a skilled and diverse workforce that not only meets the demands of climate goals and initiatives, but exceeds them. We aspire to be a driving force in this journey, contributing to the Massachusetts’ environmental sustainability initiatives, by empowering the weatherization workforce in an effort to significantly enhance the overall quality of life for the residents of Massachusetts.

Matt has over 3 years of experience as a professional communicator and is responsible for the coordination, facilitation, and oversight of GJA training center activities. He also took on the creation, development, and implementation of GJA’s new design and brand. He is passionate about green energy, climate science, and helping others learn.
